When I was a child, we had a Christmas Advent Calendar wall hanging that was made out of felt to count down the days to Christmas. My grandma made it and it is one of my favorite childhood memories from the Christmas season. It’s a red wall hanging with a Christmas tree on it and then 24 little pockets on the bottom. Pulling out a felt ornament every morning to pin it to the tree was a simple ritual but it provided a visual for me and my sister as we anticipated Christmas day and enjoyed the season. Several years ago when my sister and I each started to have children of our own, my mom made an exact replica of my Grandma’s felt advent calendar so that we could each hang one in our home during the Christmas season. I love pulling it out every year and sharing it with my kids now. 

Maybe because of that ritual, I’ve always had a fondness for advent calendars. I love the idea of having something to mark the day but also capture memories as my children grow.
